We are a dedicated network of volunteers united by the City of Sanctuary ethos. We operate entirely through unpaid commitment, with everyone contributing their unique skills and perspectives. Crucially, people seeking sanctuary in Northumberland are not merely recipients of support but integral members of the NCOS communityโ€”indeed, this diverse, collaborative community is the true essence of NCOS.

As a registered charity (number 1185663), we maintain a formal governance structure with a board of eight trustees (with capacity for twelve as permitted by our constitution). While trustees hold specific legal responsibilities, our daily operations are guided by an inclusive executive committee comprising trustees alongside other community members, including people seeking sanctuary and those who have secured leave to remain.

This collaborative approach ensures our work remains grounded in lived experience and shared purpose, empowering both longstanding Northumberland residents and newcomers to shape our collective future.

Qoute from R S

I would like to share my experience at the Drop-in sessions.

I come to Drop-in because it is a safe and welcoming place where I feel respected and understood. When I first arrived, I felt lonely and unsure about many things, but coming to NCOS helped me feel part of a community.

At Drop-in, I have received practical help and advice, especially with understanding services, filling in forms, and knowing where to go for support. I have also received emotional support. Having people who listen without judgment has made a big difference to my confidence and wellbeing.

What I value most is the kindness of the volunteers and the friendly atmosphere. It is not just a place to get help โ€” it is a place to meet people, make friends, and feel less isolated.

If anything could be improved, perhaps more sessions or activities for families and young people would be helpful. But overall, I am very grateful for everything NCOS provides.

Thank you for all the support you give to our community.

Kind regards,

R
